This project is an example of how we designed a significant addition to the home our clients elected to expand rather than build new elsewhere. After working with the clients for a year to find just the right "new" property for their young family, the solution grew from the comfort of working with the great land and home they realized that they already owned.
Woods were cleared to build a pond and to open up a parental line of sight from the new kitchen and family room addition. We designed the new swimming pool to be integrated into stone walls below the outdoor living "room" terraces that surround the kitchen/family room and screened porch on the east side of the home.
Our client asked us for a kitchen and family room with generous light and connection to the outdoors, taller than average ceilings, a kitchen island with oversized seating for five, room for state of the art appliances, a family dining table for eight, a seating area in front of the brick fireplace and all in a space that would be in scale with their existing home. On the easterly end we designed a comfortably sized screen porch with a stone fireplace for taking the chill off a late summer evening (or for just adding a touch of romance).
