This unique project has consisted of two phases of additions and renovations each taking place several years apart. The second phase was commenced because the "ski house" qualities of the first phase needed to give way to qualities that would speak to family and the safety of children. Given the programmatic requests, the other mandate was that the rustic, barn essence would be enhanced. During the first renovation phase an aprés ski room with a stone fireplace, room for a pool table and a bar was added to a pre-existing barn that had been converted into a residence by previous owners.

To that end, the circular gesture of a three story silo was added off the southwest corner of the existing 4 cook capacity kitchen. On the main level of the silo, we introduced a library to be a parental sanctuary that is adjacent to the kitchen and would allow for bill paying, reading and just plain hanging out with extraordinary views of Mt. Mansfield to the west. In the upper level of the silo we placed the master bedroom with a slightly uplifted beamed ceiling typical of a Nantucket beach house. The bedroom gathers sunlight beginning with the mid summer sunrise and ending with the mid summer sunset. Just off to the right, not shown in the master bedroom photo, is a gas fireplace. Also on the upper level are the master bathroom and closet areas, the children's bedrooms, hall bath, laundry and the two sets of stairs that access the main floor level.
